Voice
in Flight - Phyllis Chapell

Light, classy collection that crosses genres. Chapell provides wordless vocals
for jazz, classical, and world music selections. Her voice is the featured
instrument, and it is clear, wide ranging, and expressive. This is a perfect
selection for those times when you want something non-intrusive, but interesting
if you choose to stop and listen.
Ultraspontane
- John Jorgenson

Gypsy jazz, inspired by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, updated with a modern sound. 12 tracks
with only one vocal, it is guitar driven, melodic jazz, showcasing
Jorgenson's talent on lead guitar without overwhelming the rest of
the band.
We
are the '80s - Scandal

A couple of great songs, Warrior
and Goodbye to You, and filler. It's hard to create
a greatest hit collection from a catalog that consists of one album
and one EP. The filler is not bad though, and you have to give Patty
Smyth credit as a female rocker when there were not a lot around.
Carried
to Dust - Calexico

I bought a new HD radio several months ago, and the first thing I
heard was a half hour live set from Calexico. They (and hearing them
in HD) were awesome. The CD is not quite awesome, but it is still
very good. It is laid back rock with both country and Mexican
influences, epitomized by songs like Victor Jara's Hands,
that start with a sparse, lonely sound that gives way to horns and
Spanish lyrics.
Tête
à Tête - Calexico / ABBC

A blend of Calexico's southwestern rock with
two French musicians. Minimalist, impressionistic, not always
melodic...enjoying this requires effort on the listener's part. I
can't decide if it is worth the effort.
